Client Alert – A Job Applicant’s Salary History is Now Off-Limits in Interviews

Effective October 31, 2017, New York City employers must add salary history to the list of inquiries that are off-limits during the interview process.  Local Law No. 67 amends the New York City Human Rights Law to prohibit an employer or an employment agency from inquiring about an applicant’s salary history or relying upon such information in determining the applicant’s salary, benefits or other compensation.  Designed to address gender salary gaps, such laws are a growing trend nationwide.  The Client Alert can be found here.
